Listen to Paul
Imagine what it would be like to be in the audience for a performance by George Gershwin...How unforgettable would it be to witness "Fats" Waller swinging his original rendition of “Honeysuckle Rose”? Those prospects are no longer mere fantasy. Amazingly enough, these legendary solos can actually be heard and appreciated in performance once again. Thanks to Dr. Paul Posnak, today's audiences have the opportunity to experience the actual, until now unpublished solos of the men who left their stamp on American musical traditions. In his hands, these giants of jazz come alive--their every note, every nuance, exactly as written and performed by the masters themselves. Dr. Posnak has painstakingly transcribed, note-for- note, the actual virtuoso solos of Gershwin, Waller and Jelly Roll Morton, and recreates them in the exact manner in which they were performed on the original 78rpm recordings and radio broadcasts.

A Paul Posnak performance allows you to hear "Fats" Waller’s “Ain't Misbehavin’” performed in the signature style of the composer himself. You experience "I Got Rhthym" played with the bravura technique that was unique to Gershwin alone.

These remarkable solos are presented as multi-media “informances”, transporting you into the world in which these composers lived and worked. Dr. Posnak shares with audiences revealing, and often hilariously funny, anecdotes about the joint-rocking giants of the Jazz Age. The Washington Post proclaimed these informances as “remarkably like having Gershwin himself ” and the late, great jazz critic and author, Martin Williams, stated “I think he is the best. He’s absorbed the styles just about perfectly.”

On any given night, Dr. Posnak’s repertoire may also include his own improvisations on Scott Joplin rags, the haunting tangos of Ernesto Nazareth, or rags by Harlem's Eubie Blake or Pulitzer Prize winning composer William Bolcom. At a Paul Posnak performance, when he sits down to play, the joint is, indeed, jumpin’.
